THE LAKE NORMAN
BIG BAND

BIG BAND

The Lake Norman Big Band is the premier big band in the Lake Norman and greater Charlotte area.  We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable musical arts organization formed by all-volunteer musicians.  The Lake Norman Big Band takes the stage with about 20 members and performs the full spectrum of jazz music from the 1920's to present day.  We perform selections from Dixieland, swing, bebop, Latin, jazz-rock fusion, faith and pop genres.  The group generally performs with 4 trumpets, 4 trombones, 5 saxophones (2 alto, 2 tenor & baritone), a rhythm section (piano, guitar, bass guitar, drums & percussion) and vocalists.

The big band has been performing regularly for the public on a monthly schedule since January 2010.  We also perform for charities, churches, festivals, non-profit organizations, clubs, fund raisers, veteran’s groups, corporate celebrations, etc.  We play in either concert venues or dinner/dance settings.  Playlists are developed specifically for each occasion.  The band is currently booking performance engagements.  Please contact us for more information.

The Lake Norman Big Band is excited to host our 2015 Summer Jazz Celebration.  This is an inspiring, educational event (band camp if you will) for our group.  For the public, it is an opportunity to hear our band featuring a couple of the finest jazz saxophone artists around.  The band kicks off the event with a two hour rehearsal on Friday evening and then spends the entire day on Saturday in sectionals, master classes, and full ensemble rehearsals.  The culmination of the weekend is a concert on Saturday evening, Aug. 22nd that is free to the public.  It will be held at 7:00 PM in the sanctuary of Williamson's Chapel United Methodist Church.  The address is 575 Brawley School Road, Mooresville, NC 28117.  It is located at the corner of Williamson and Brawley School Roads.  There is plenty of free parking.

Our featured guest artist this year is preeminent saxophonist, Mr. James Riggs from Denton, Texas.  Mr. Riggs is Regents Professor Emeritus of the University of North Texas College of Music Jazz Studies, and Performance Divisions.  From 1993 until his retirement in August 2008, Riggs taught Applied Saxophone, Jazz Style and Analysis, and directed the Two O'Clock Lab Band.  He holds degrees from the University of North Texas and the University of Toledo.  Mr. Riggs is an artist/clinician for Rico International.  He has produced many award-winning saxophonists including Dr. Will Campbell, who is the Director of Jazz Studies and Associate Professor of Saxophone at UNC Charlotte.  Dr. Campbell will be joining his mentor as an instructor, and will also play in the band for The 2015 Summer Jazz Celebration concert.

OUR MUSICAL HOME

The Lake Norman Big Band's musical home is the Finish Line Restaurant and Lounge.  This venue is located at 125 Morlake Drive, Mooresville, NC. in George Pappas' Victory Lanes.  The concert/dance area is enclosed and separated from the bowling alley so that sound from the lanes does not disrupt our music.

All shows are held on the third Monday of each month from 7:00 - 9:00 PM.
Dinner seating is available at booths, regular tables and high tops.  Limited seating is also available at the bar.  The restaurant charges a $10 walk-up cover charge.  Reservations may be made by calling the Finish Line at 704-664-2695.  Those reservations are held with a charge of $15 per person.  Of this fee, $5 is a cover charge.  Upon your arrival at the venue, you will receive a $10 credit per person to apply to food, drink, or other entertainment at the facility.  Any remaining seats are available on a first come/first served basis.

Our band encourages donations in order to continue to provide quality programs.

We are excited to be able to continue to present the Lake Norman and greater Charlotte area with the finest in live big band jazz music.
