BIG BAND

The Lake Norman Big Band takes the stage as a 20-member ensemble composed of talented musicians from the Lake Norman region.
Since its formation in 1998 and incorporation in 2007, the band has performed at numerous Lake Norman community events including outdoor concerts at the Lowe's YMCA, Race City Days Festival; local churches; the Town of Cornelius; fundraisers for the USO, American Cancer Society, the March of Dimes Signature Chef's Auction; and others including the Mooresville Concert Association. We currently play regularly on the fourth Monday of every month at the Finish Line Restaurant in Mooresville.
Big Band is a style of music that originated in the 1930's and 1940's. During that era the popular bands were conducted by such legends as Duke Ellington, Tommy Dorsey, Count Basie, Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman and others. Later, came the younger generation of stars like Stan Kenton, Woody Herman, Buddy Rich and Maynard Ferguson. Big bands kept the country dancing and in recent years, have become very popular for many social events. We go beyond that concept, incorporate many different styles of music from the different eras and give it our own sound. Most unique is our treatment of more modern songs by popular bands and artists including Chicago, Tower of Power, Earth Wind and Fire, Carlos Santana, Norah Jones, Michael Buble and Pat Metheny. We hope to win over a new generation of fans who hear us play music that may be more recognizable. Please check out our playlist for the latest updates to our musical chart collection.
